Rug Cleaning Neutral Bay

The short answer: we collect rugs from Neutral Bay homes and apartments, wash them in our purpose-built Sydney rug facility and return them clean and fully dry. We don't clean them on your floor. Every rug is inspected and dye-tested before we pick a method. That matters most for the rugs we see most often in Neutral Bay: Persian and Oriental rugs, silk and viscose pieces, and designer rugs bought to go with apartment interiors. Call

Why Neutral Bay Rugs Need a Different Approach to Carpet Cleaning
Most results for "rug cleaning Neutral Bay" are carpet cleaning companies. They bring a truck-mounted machine to your home, do your wall-to-wall carpet and offer to "do the rug while we're there." For a synthetic rug that's usually fine. For a hand-knotted Persian, a silk rug or a designer piece with a latex backing, it's one of the most common ways we see rugs damaged.
Hot-water extraction on a hand-knotted rug cleans the face fibres and leaves the soil in the foundation. It also leaves the rug wet on your floor, often for a long time in a low-airflow apartment, and may never test the dyes at all. We remove rugs from the home because a proper wash needs space, water control and a drying room, and Neutral Bay apartments don't have those.
The Rugs We Clean Most Often in Neutral Bay
Persian and Oriental rugs
Hand-knotted wool rugs from Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, India and the Caucasus make up a large share of the Lower North Shore rugs we clean. Some are inherited, some were bought overseas, and some came from local dealers years ago and have never had a proper wash. These rugs hold a surprising amount of fine grit at the base of the pile. Our Persian rug cleaning process starts with dusting that grit out before any water is used.
Silk, viscose and "art silk" rugs
Harbourside apartments attract rugs with sheen. Some are genuine silk and many are viscose (also sold as "art silk" or "bamboo silk"). They look almost the same in a showroom and behave completely differently in water. Viscose can lose its sheen, yellow, or go stiff if it's wetted carelessly. We confirm the fibre before deciding anything. See silk rug cleaning Sydney for more detail.
Designer and hand-tufted rugs
Rugs bought through interior designers and design stores along Military Road and Crows Nest are often hand-tufted wool or wool-blend on a glued cotton or latex backing. They aren't woven like a Persian rug. They need different handling because the backing can delaminate, shrink or hold odour if over-wetted. See hand-tufted rug cleaning.
Antique and heirloom rugs
Older Neutral Bay homes around Kurraba Point, Hayes Street and the streets running down to the harbour often have rugs that are genuinely old. They can have worn foundations, earlier repairs, or dyes that have never been tested. These get a more conservative assessment. See antique and heirloom rug cleaning.

How Collection Works From a Neutral Bay Apartment
A lot of our Neutral Bay work comes from strata buildings, so the collection process is designed around them. Here is how it works.
- Tell us about the rug. Call or use the form below. Approximate size, rug type if you know it, and a photo of the front and back help a great deal. A photo of the back often tells us more than the front.
- Tell us about the building. Let us know about lift bookings, loading dock or visitor parking access, and any building manager requirements. Many Neutral Bay buildings ask for a lift booking or a lift blanket. If we know in advance, we arrive at the right time and don't hold up your neighbours.
- We collect. The rug is vacuumed lightly where it lies if needed, then rolled pile-in so the face is protected. Large rugs are carried by two people, never dragged. If furniture is on the rug, let us know beforehand.
- We inspect at the facility. Fibre identification, dye testing, foundation and fringe check, plus a UV check for pet contamination where relevant. If anything changes the plan or the quote, we call you before any cleaning starts.
- We clean and dry. The method suits the rug: controlled washing for most wool rugs, and a more conservative low-moisture approach for silk, viscose or fragile pieces. Drying is controlled indoors, not done in the sun.
- We return the rug fully dry. It comes back wrapped and is laid back in position. If you'd like, we can reverse its direction so wear and fading even out over time.
Collection and delivery are free across the Sydney metropolitan area for eligible jobs. Full detail is on our rug pickup and delivery page. If you'd rather bring the rug to us, see drop-off rug cleaning.
Something most guides don't mention: apartment rugs often have problems house rugs don't. Harbour-facing windows mean strong afternoon sun, so one side of the rug fades faster than the other. Sealed, air-conditioned rooms mean spills and pet accidents dry slowly and sit in the foundation for longer. And a rug pad that's been under the same rug for years on a timber or tiled floor can hold its own odour and grit. When we collect, we check the pad and the floor underneath as well as the rug.

What We Check Before Cleaning a Valuable Rug
| What we check |
Why it matters for your rug |
| Fibre (wool, silk, viscose, cotton, blends) |
Decides water temperature, chemistry, agitation and drying. Silk and viscose are treated very differently. |
| Dye stability |
Reds and dark blues in village rugs can bleed. We test before washing rather than finding out halfway through. |
| Construction (hand-knotted, flatweave, hand-tufted) |
Determines whether full washing is suitable or whether the backing or slit-weave joins need protecting. |
| Foundation and fringe condition |
Weak warps, dry rot or loose ends are noted before cleaning, and may need rug repair first. |
| Pet contamination (UV check) |
Urine that isn't visible in daylight changes the method and needs to be treated through the foundation. |
| Previous cleaning residue |
Detergent left behind by home or in-situ cleaning attracts soil quickly and has to be rinsed out properly. |

Common Problems We're Called About in Neutral Bay
- Pet accidents in apartments. Dogs and cats in apartments often go back to the same spot on a rug. Surface sprays rarely reach the foundation. See pet urine and odour removal.
- Red wine and food spills after entertaining, especially on light wool and viscose. See our rug stain removal guides.
- Musty or damp smells in rugs kept in ground-floor units, storage cages or rooms close to the water. See rug mould removal and why a rug can still smell after cleaning.
- Moth damage under furniture and in rugs stored during a renovation or move. See moth rug cleaning.
- Rugs needing cleaning before a move, sale or lease end. Let us know your deadline when you book.

Caring for a Valuable Rug in a Neutral Bay Home Between Cleans
- Vacuum with suction only, no beater bar. Keep the vacuum off the fringe.
- Rotate the rug 180 degrees every six to twelve months, especially in harbour-facing rooms that get strong sun.
- Use sheer curtains or UV-filtering film on west-facing glass where you can. Faded colour can't be put back by cleaning.
- Blot spills straight away with a white cloth, working from the outside in. Don't scrub, and don't reach for carpet stain sprays on silk or viscose.
- Lift the rug every so often to check the pad and floor underneath, particularly if you have pets.
- Never store a rug wrapped in plastic in a damp storage cage. Roll it, wrap it in breathable fabric and keep it off the floor.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you clean rugs in my Neutral Bay apartment, or do you take them away?
We take them away. Hand-knotted, silk and designer rugs need dye testing, controlled washing and controlled drying, and none of that can be done properly on an apartment floor. Collection and return are free for eligible jobs across Sydney.
Can you work with my building's lift booking and parking rules?
Yes. Tell us the building's requirements when you book, such as a lift booking, loading dock access, a time window or a protective lift blanket, and we'll schedule the collection to fit.
How do I know if my "silk" rug is real silk or viscose?
Often you can't tell by looking. Many rugs sold as silk or "bamboo silk" are viscose. We identify the fibre at inspection before cleaning, because the right method differs greatly between the two.
Is it safe to have a Persian rug cleaned by a carpet cleaner at home?
It's not something we recommend for hand-knotted rugs. In-situ extraction cleans the surface but leaves soil in the foundation, rarely includes dye testing, and leaves the rug drying slowly on your floor. Those are the conditions that lead to dye bleed, browning and lingering odour.
How long will my rug be away?
It depends on the rug, its condition and the weather affecting drying. We'll give you an estimate after inspection. If you have a deadline such as a move, a sale or guests, tell us when you book. For urgent jobs, see same day rug cleaning.
Can you guarantee every stain or smell will come out?
No honest rug cleaner can. Some dye bleed, sun fading and deep urine damage are permanent. We'll tell you what we expect is achievable after inspection, before you commit to anything.
